Web based water data logging is key to reducing water costs and water leakage prevention.

Author:  Graham Mann, Water Audit Expert.

If your company is in the process of driving down water and waste water costs, the very first consideration within the water strategy is installing a water flow monitoring device (data logger) to the main incoming water company revenue meter(s), permission will have to be sought from your water supplier as there is a strict protocol to follow as the water company own the meter(s) and if you simply install data logging equipment to water company meters the chances are they will be moved without notice. So take advise from your water consultant first, once approval has been given from the water company the data logger can then be installed.

You can receive water flow data via a web based data platform, various software packages are available but go for simple to navigate systems, this example demonstrates a substantial rise in water consumption, an email alarm system was programmed into the software to alert when water flow exceeds specified levels.

If water leakage is detected when they happen and the water leaks are repaired quickly then this will minimise the impact on the future water bills without on-line monitoring via this method your companies site will be left wide open to high risk water leakage.
