Where does water come from? is it that obvious ?

H20 Building Services Logo - Value water more

Yes, but it is worth reiterating that in the UK all water comes from the sky! it really does come from rain and snow.

In the UK we have no untapped ancient aquifers.

All of the water comes out of the ground via boreholes , from rivers and from natural lakes and man made reservoirs.

How does water get there?

Water gets there via the hydrologic cycle, because its a cycle it doesn’t actually start or end so we begin with the sea.

  • Water evaporates from the sea into the atmosphere as water vapor.

  • Water vapor in the atmosphere gets blown around and eventually cools and forms clouds with a disproportionately large percentage that are over the British Isles.

  • Sooner or later this water vapor precipitates as rain and snow and reaches the ground.

  • The rest can either become ground water seeping into the earth or it can run off quickly and sometimes catastrophically into rivers and lakes.

  • Eventually this groundwater and run off finds its way to the sea where the cycle starts all over again.

Should we value water more?

Yes without doubt we should as there is a growing concern that the world is running out of water.

If the latest press briefing “Are we running out of water” is anything to go by we should be very worried indeed, saving water and reducing costs contributes not only go to reduced water bills for any business or organisation but this will also make a substantial contribution to our environment in reducing a finite resource.

So if we “Value water more” its good for business and our environment.
