Water Leak Takes Out MRI Scanner At Children’s Hospital

Prioritising water leak detection is a must for all businesses, no matter what kind. If you don’t do this, you may well find that your bills spiral because you’re wasting water – often without even knowing about it. A little leak can quickly become quite problematic and the longer you leave it, the worse the situation will inevitably become.

As the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh has just found out to its cost – according to the Scotsman, a much-needed MRI scanner was taken out of action by a water leak that affected approximately 40 children. Hospital staff were apparently unable to use the radiology department scanner until the room dried out, meaning that appointments had to be postponed.

The mother of one child, who asked to remain anonymous, explained that her daughter has been off school with painful headaches for months and she should have had an MRI scan at this particular facility. But the appointment had to be rescheduled because of the flooding.

She told the news source: “There doesn’t seem to be a quick solution, to fix this invaluable diagnostic tool, which is an appalling situation. I would like to know how this vital piece of medical equipment has been flooded, in a hospital in 2018, and why a quick solution to help the medical staff diagnose children, can’t be found?”

Daniel Johnson, Scottish Labour MSP, made further comments, saying that the Royal Hospital for Sick Kids will be moving sites in 2018 and it sounds as though this can’t come soon enough. The staff are now being hindered in their jobs by “leaks in a building, which is no longer fit for purpose”.

To avoid a similar situation, whatever kind of industry you’re in, you do need to make detecting these leaks a top priority this year. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to do this yourself because the majority of leaks take place out of sight and well out of mind.

Over time, however, the tiniest trickle of water can become a huge problem for your business – and you risk major repair bills for water damage and can also be hit with soaring bills because of water wastage.

Damage to pipes is incredibly common and have a variety of different causes, whether it’s heavy vibration from traffic overhead, weather erosion, age, general deterioration, poor connection of joints or valves, accidental damage, or damage done by animals.

You should certainly arrange to have a water leak investigation carried out because this will find even the tiniest of leaks – and you can then take action to resolve the problem, preventing further wastage of both water and money.
