The Water Audit Experts at H20 identify a £64,000 water loss – case study.

Author: Graham Mann, H²O Building Services, The Water Audit Experts.

We received a call from a national leisure parks company, they had concerns regarding the water charges at one of their sites in Northumberland. A years worth of water and waste water bills were provided together with details of the site facilities and number of caravans and mobile homes. We recommended installing a water flow data logger to the water companies water meter that served the site, this device when installed to the water meter records the water flow over time and sends the data via the mobile phone network. The data platform is accessed via a web portal where the system produces a graph which is then analysed by our water audit experts and a written report of our initial findings and our recommendations is sent to the client for approval for the next stage.

In this instance a continual water flow of 3.5 cubic metres per hour was recorded, total water classed as unaccounted water losses 30,600 cubic metres per year at a cost of £64,000 which in this case represents 60% of the total annual water consumption.

Our recommendation is to attend site to carry out an unaccounted water loss investigation to above and below ground water fittings, upon completion forward a written report containing recommendations to reduce the water consumption, a detailed specification cost and payback.

Upon completion of the site investigations we will post a copy of the water leak site report – watch this space.
