Keeping the customers satisfied is one of the old adages of good business – and not without reason. After all, if people aren’t happy with the service they’re receiving, they’ll take their custom elsewhere.

Interestingly, consumers these days are becoming increasingly demanding of the brands they spend their money with and, among the many issues that they want businesses to address, being sustainable and more eco-friendly with business operations appears to be right at the top.

Research from Garnier, reported on by Cosmetics Design Europe, has revealed that 81 per cent of people around the world want to be more sustainable this year, with 44 per cent saying that the pandemic has made them take environmental issues more seriously.

Some 36 per cent of those asked said they thought brands had a pivotal role to play in helping drive interest in sustainability, with 32 per cent adding that they’d be prepared to take small green steps if they were assisted in doing so by brands.

Further, 44 per cent said that companies had a duty to provide products that help promote a more sustainable lifestyle, with 43 per cent saying they would consider switching to more eco-friendly brands and that they wanted more eco information about products.

Adrien Koskas, global brand president at Garnier, was quoted by the news source as saying: “This report proves that 2020 was a wakeup call to protect our planet. The research looks at eight countries across four continents, and shows that 2020 acted as a stark reminder that we all need to take steps towards a greener planet.”

One way to make a very significant difference to the eco credentials of your business is to make water efficiency a priority.

Global freshwater supplies are under increasing amounts of pressure, thanks to climate change, globalisation, urbanisation, extreme weather events and population growth, but there is a lot you can do as a company to reduce your reliance on such resources, safeguarding them for future generations.

One of the most effective ways to start reducing your water usage and consumption is to have a water audit carried out so leaks can be identified and repaired quickly. Did you know that three billion litres of water is lost through leakage in England alone each and every day?

You can start bringing this down by tracking the water flow across your site – if spikes in usage are seen, it could indicate that there’s a leak somewhere that needs to be addressed.

Taking steps such as these can also potentially save you lots of money and often we’re able to achieve savings in excess of 30 per cent of current water bills, so you’ll be saving the environment and helping boost the coffers at the same time.
